With thousands of members across the world, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons Inc. functions as one of the most popular and largest trade organizations for professionals involved in minimally invasive surgery. Using continuing education and training programs, the organization enlightens individuals about developments in the field. Moreover, the group encourages an expanded presence of laparoendoscopy in medicine and medical schools.

To further its efforts, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons unites with related organizations for joint projects. In 2012, it partnered with the Minimally Invasive Robotic Association and the Society for Robotic Surgery to create a week-long symposium featuring panels and exhibitions dedicated to different topics in minimally invasive surgery.
